Raising a voice for the homeless

Raising a voice for the homeless by ItzaFineDay.
Laurie Fuhr talks to a CBC radio reporter during the rally.

Around 70 people turned up for a protest in front of Calgary's City Hall on Monday, November 20th in response to the City of Calgary's introduction of a "Public Behaviour Bylaw" that would see up to $300 and even prison time for things such as spitting, putting feet on benches, and public urination as well as loitering or fighting in public. While the bylaw was initially in response to loutish behaviour during Stanley Cup celebrations on Calgary street now infamous as the "Red Mile", it was broadened to police "uncivil" behaviour in general.

However, the bylaw unfairly targets the homeless population who are inevitably relegated to acts of "uncivil behaviour" because of their predicament - exemplified by criminilizing public urination when there are next to no public washrooms in the city.
