well BG wrestling in general is way homoerotic, i was being gentle in my commentary because they are so young, and i don't think thats what was in their heads at that moment in that context....but to an american viewer definitely

@ Frits42 : most of my homosexual male friends became sexually self aware around 8-10 years old. though this probably is not homoerotic at all, it is not like it is impossible

i agree with fritz - it's like seeing 3 sleeping male puppies and thinking that's homoerotic. of course you can choose to view this as such but i think such a reaction says more about the person who is seeing this in the photo than the photo itself.

Also, Fritz42, we have no more reason to believe they are "innocent" then we have to believe they are not. And not all acts that have erotic undercurrents (wrestling among them) actually always involve erotic sentiment among the participants. That doesn't mean they don't still have that undercurrent which is applicable to some participants. I believe the erotic feeling in this photo comes from its resemblance to other imagery I have seen which is meant to convey that feeling. It's not just a statement about the viewer, but of the culture of image in general.

I don't think it's even debated that the culture of image has been sexualized. Of course it has. It's been a long time since a woman's ankle was a titillating sight in western culture.
I think, also, that in western culture, there is less physical contact encouraged between men, and so these are not just "3 sleeping shirtless teenage boys" but "3 sleeping shirtless teenage boys piled together." I realize that this is not a universal cultural attribute, but the viewers, for the most part, in the DMU, are from western cultural backgrounds.
As far as innocent until proven guilty, as riverman said earlier, the average teenage mind is anything but innocent. They may not be homosexual, but I'd be willing to bet they spend plenty of time thinking about sex.
