I'm not sure whether to read up or down, and
the blurred text creates another level of
ambiguity. Is he asking whether they need
wine, and she reverting to her maiden name in
response? Or is she changing her name and he
asking if they should celebrate? And if the
latter, is it because she is finally taking
his name, or because she is taking another?
All avenues ripe with humor.

It reads from top to bottom. The (rather less
interesting) gist of it is that we are
unclear on exactly what my wife's name is but
according to my chat client she has taken my
surname as her own.

I thought everyone took their relationship
and status cues from IM.

I'm not sure what this means, but it is potentially very funny.
