The more I look at this the more I wish I had left the CTO gel on the flash. It would have added some separation from the background because the background would have turned bluish once I corrected the couple back to daylight.

When I see images like this, I always wonder when they were taken. If the bride and groom don't want to see each other before the ceremony, and formals are between the ceremony and reception...then when do you find time for this?

We spent about 30 minutes after the "formals" on these fun shots. The formals were also taken outside.

Why do you put "formals" in quotes? Were they non-traditional? I'd love to get away from doing the standards at all, but I'm not sure what to suggest in place of them. Nobody ever, ever buys them, and they're a giant pain.

Yes and no. They weren't traditional in the sense that they were outside and in the entry way of the Valencia. There really was just no place to do it inside. They were formal in the sense that they were the normal line-up of the bridal party that morphs into every possible combination of B+G+Mom+Dad, etc.

I hear you too... we get forced or guilted into honoring every request for every combination (why do they do that?) yet no prints are ever ordered of the various combinations. I say one of the whole wedding party and then one of the family and be done with it. If only it were that easy.
