Somehow, SOME WAY, the powers that be in this country will keep that man from becoming president. Be it via assassination, diebold brand voting machine trickery or just plain old electoral college bullshit... PROVE ME WRONG, America.
I think I might actually vote in this one.

Doris. You posted "I think I might actually vote in this one" So in other words Doris you're saying that you have not voted in past elections? Maybe what you call "trickery" is just people like you not voting?

People who don't vote have no business bitching about election results.

Interesting. This mural looks like it came from a dictatorship where the leader's face is plastered everywhere. Just an observation.

Thus far, I think this election is waking a lot of people up. I'm glad that Doris might vote. If she didn't vote in the past, I won't hold it against her. We live in this moment, not the past. At this moment, the government is upside down and people are starting to notice. That's a good thing. I don't think she was bitching so much as voicing her fears. The election process is tainted. Recent history proves this to be true. Doris not voting is the least of the actual trickery in play. I vote and I've been voting. In 2000 my absentee vote was not counted in Florida. In 2004, I watched record turn out at voting polls... people standing in line waiting for change and still George Bush is in office. Voter supression, intimidation, and out right voting scams are and have been out of control. We all should be bitching. At least it means we're awake.
Dictators commission or demand that their image be displayed prominently at every turn because they are afraid "they're people" will forget them. This mural exists because a street artist felt inspired by the words of a man who happens to be running for President. We need more inspiration. We need more hope. We need voters. Lets not discourage change. In this election, I'm looking for transformation and for that we need everybody.

oooh... good dialog going on here... First off, I never voted before for several reasons... 1. Avoiding selective service... 2. Electoral college invalidates the popular vote... 3. C'mon, kids, the florida shit was FUCKED UP. if that didn't hamper your faith in democracy, then maybe a few noam chomsky books and the New Yorker will do the trick....

And as for the dictatorship thing, I think you're right aesthetically, but wrong about the intention... I'm GUESSING this is Tats Cru, and they would do a piece like this outta love. the parallels with che, abacha, kim jong il or hussein are there, but hip hop plays off of multiple cultural touchpoints like that... shit, i'm too out if it to explain.

I.S. You know what i'm saying...

and they are already playing games with the voters.... this shit is fucked and if obama doesn't make it (i think we all feel his momentum right now, he HAS the popular vote) then some shit is gonna go down in this nation, and i'm gonna be hiding in my basement with a twelve guage whilst the streets are torn to pieces.

Please god, give me/us a black prez in our lifetime.

Dois. Senator Obama does not have the "popular vote" as you claim. McCain is leading in the polls right now.

Oldmanchas, beware. Selective reading can be hazardous to your intelligence. No one, in this thread, implied that Obama was leading the popular vote. Doris did discuss the validity of the electoral college and it's effect on the popular vote... But since you brought it up... the election hasn't actually started.. The polls are still projections of what will come once the primary process closes. Obama is not our candidate yet. I personally hope that he will be. At this point McCain is running around talking to himself. There is no discourse, no dialogue, and no comparisons. Don't be consoled that McCain is up in the poles. The Democrats haven't even begun to focus their attentions on his viability as a candidate. When they do, It will quickly be apparent that McCain has nothing more to offer this country than a further extension of of the misery that GWB has already accosted us with thus far. 81% of the country thinks we are on the wrong track. McCain thinks we are on the right track. That's a poll I believe in. Revel in McCain's fleeting success now, while you can.

Irony. You're the one doing the "selective reading". Doris clearly states that Obama "Has the the popular vote". He does not. If you would read my link you would see that.

Irony. The Realclear info you provide only shows that Obama is ahead of Clinton among Democrats. It does not show that Obama is more popular than McCain right now.

Oh, come on, chas, like ANYONE in america is gonna vote republican again after the last 8 year debacle?

it's between hillary and obama and that's it. McCain is a fucking placeholder, nothing more. once the primaries are over, the election is too. Bush fucked the republicans for decades to come.

Doris. The polls say that it will be a very close election as always. So about half of all the voters in U.S. will vote Republican.

Hold on to your polls Chas. The election hasn't even begun. You obviously fall in to the part of the population who is elated by the direction the country is headed. There is nothing Doris or I can do to make you want more for yourself. For your sake, I hope you are wrong. For the record, I don't care what your precious polls have to say. The country is tired. I think that will show in the election results. The country has been subject to republican rule for almost a decade and we have nothing to show for it but despair. Maybe you don't feel it Chas and that's okay because 81% of the country does feel it and we plan to stand up for you even if you won't stand up for yourself. (I threw that poll in there just for you Chas)

Irony. You have no idea what I think or what I want. And I don't need you or anyone else to stand up for me.

And whether you choose to believe the polls or not, this next election should be very close. So I suggest you and Doris both get out and register to vote. The first time for both of you I'm sure.

and besides, how much faith can an yone have in the process after the last 8 years? this country is knee deep in BULLSHIT and after the Ohio/Florida mess can you blame people for doubting democracy?

so sorry i didn't make your election party. i got dragged into some craziness in park slope. there were people of all ages, races and occupations just screaming and happy and cars honking and the bars were packed tight with people watching the final speech, and I was just like "fuck yea, history in the making."

It's all good! The place was packed. It was so insane to see soooo many people excited, and scared about the outcome of a presidential election. It felt good to be on the right side of history with so many others! It was awesome. i couldn't have imagined a better outcome. 2008. We won't forget it—that's for certain.
