High Wheel Bicycle Club Group Photo - circa 1885

    See it LARGER. These early bicycles were also called penny-farthing, high wheel, high wheeler, Hi-wheel and ordinary bikes. The were the first cycles to be called "bicycles". These early biker dudes were a pretty cool group!

    This image comes from a group of vintage images that I purchased -- all are scanned from contact prints made from the original 8x10 glass negatives. I have performed extensive restoration work on each image, but trying to be true to the original. Compare my restoration to this photo from the Wichita Photo Archives.

      this should be 1891/92 - because in the front right you can see a victor safety bicycle produced by the overman wheel company
