Hometown girl

In just a couple of months, the Pearl River Ceili Band will be heading off to Tullamore, County Offaly, to compete in the 57th Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. As you can see from the photos ... there are a lot of them, and it will take a lot of money to get them there. On Friday night, June 20, they raised a good chunk of the money as they played for a ceili at the Philadelphia Irish Center in Mount Airy. As you can also see from the pictures, it was quite the cross-generational event, the musicians in their teens and the dancers, many of them anyway, old enough to be their grandparents. The dancers certainly seemed as proud as grandparents as the kids took to the stage for a long night of sets. Among the members of the Pearl River Band, which took first place at the Mid-Atlantic Fleadh, was fiddler and banjo player Caitlin Finley.
