Tom Conaghan and Pat Bonner

Joseph McGarrity was an Irish emigre from Carrickmore, County Tyrone. He settled in Philadelphia and made his fortune as a wine and spirits merchant. He was completely committed to the republican cause, a lifelong leader of Clan na Gael, and is widely credited with having secured arms for the cause. Each year, Philadelphia-area Irish Americans gather at his gravesite to commemorate the Easter Week, 1916, uprising led by Pádraig Pearse. Members of Irish Northern Aid, Clan na Gael, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and other Irish organizations take part.
