Flaming Out of Control

frankly this is what I feel like right now. i am irritated and fed up--of selfish people, of schoolwork, of growing up. i'm fed fed fed up with constantly working but always racing to get new things in by the due dates. i'm fed up with wasting so much time doing schoolwork that is trivial and that doesn't enrich me as a person. I'd rather be spending all day creating art, spending time with my family, my friends, writing, etc.

Fire

my first time using my brand new studio lights!!! I got them as my early christmas present. they are AWESOME and have opened up a whole new realm of possibility for me. sooo pleased with the lights.

anyways, a recent poem i wrote, haven't shared any writing with you all in a while:

The Dragonfly’s Funeral

The matchbox
Is its coffin,
the corpse with spindling legs
and wings folded across
its cracking shell of chitin,
a knight’s breastplate
and even in death
its two eyes, blind and lidless
are the color of her shining lips
two pearls of blood, like when they
prick your finger with a needle
and a crimson bud peeks out

the wings are wafers that melt on my tongue
the veins crisscrossed like honeycombs
that will melt into a sticky mess on my fingers.
but still and cool in the shadows of the paper lid,
they have ossified and they will keep their form,
like stained glass in a Normandy cathedral that has
been broken by school boys and pieced
back together with Elmer’s glue

we are all present for the ceremony
the box sealed up with tape
Tutankhamen’s final resting place and sister’s hands
The final conveyer into a dark and lonely tomb
a three inch hole beneath a flagstone in the garden
the beautiful, breakable body

and I am thinking
That in all my life
I shall never be so sorry
As when I stepped on a dragonfly.

Predator

i'm planning to do a series at the aquarium, i've been planning it for a while but when we went to take pics this weekend it was FILLEDDD with kids (expectedly). i'm gonna go on a day where not as many people will be there....
