Construction Worker

Construction Worker by wools.
Construction worker cutting PVC pipe for a new drainage system, designed and implemented after the Summer 2001 flooding in Houston. They often worked during the night; this one was taken well past 1am.

More here.

One of the main reasons I like this photograph is the PVC dust coming off the cutting blade.

Ben,

The ultimate irony is that, due to an error in my backup mechanisms that went unnoticed for too long, I lost the original RAW file to this image. All I have left is the processed 8 bit jpeg. :(

outstanding exposure - great shot! I'd be interested in an overview of your workflow for this one, if you'd care to share.

My workflow is simple. Raw -> ACR -> TIFF -> jpeg. In ACR/PS, I only do basic exposure/color balance adjustments.

This construction set is awesome! Was this done just for kicks? Or for photojournalism? [about to follow that link above anyway]

I just need to figure out night photography, something I don't do well!

Just for kicks. I wander around, find an interesting scene, then spend as much time as necessary to get the images I need. :)

I will confide in you a secret. Construction workers are a favorite topic of mine because they're a captive subject. This is the main reason there are so many homeless shots on the internet. But construction work can provide striking images without the cliches associated with the homeless and other people you typically see on the street.

Exactly, it is not so courageous to approach kids or homeless. Easy victims. Real workers is something. I like your attitude. But please...forget about cameras, raw, or whatever. Content is making a good shot. Your brain...and a little bit of hardware. Earthly things. You can take a teabox to make good shots. It is only comfortable for us to have high tech gadgets. This is a good shot because of action and composition...should I start to complain about that overexposed spot?
