I was recently commissioned to photograph 3 model rooms for a new luxury resort in Bangkok that when it opens (mid-2012) will feature the highest room rates in town! Hopefully will also be selected for the next round of shooting of public areas of this amazing hotel.

Old East Asiatic Company HQ | Bangkok | Thailand

Old East Asiatic Company HQ | Bangkok | Thailand

The classical Venetian-style facade of the East Asiatic Company (built in 1884) is situated next to the Oriental Hotel (that's the famous Author's Wing on the left) on the banks of the Chao Praya River. The company was central to developing trade between Thailand and the rest of the world and this building was its headquarters.

The company traces its origin back to 1884, when Captain H N Andersen, a Danish sea captain, established a trading company in Bangkok at the famous Oriental Avenue. In 1897 Captain Andersen formally set up the East Asiatic Company in Copenhagen.

The company started out by running teak concessions in the north and importing goods by water freight via the Chao Phraya River.

Now disussed and empty, it will hopefully now conserved as a historical building. It's wedged between the Oriental Hotel and Sacred Heart Cathedral & School at Oriental Pier.

Siam Commercial Bank's First Branch in Bangkok | Thailand

Siam Commercial Bank's First Branch in Bangkok | Thailand

When Siam Commercial Bank started business in 1906; an Italian architect, Rigotti was commissioned to design the first branch in Talad Noi near the Chao Phraya River. Completed in 1910, this beautiful building was the venue for the centenary celebrations of the oldest bank in Thailand on 30 January 2006.

Visited as part of a riverside photowalk with Thai-On We nearly got locked in the property as security forgot we were there! We arrived just as the sun was setting so lighting was extremely tricky, requiring multiple exposures on my part. I particularly love these trees, can anyone tell me what is the species?

Pointing to the Heavens | Wat Arun | Bangkok

Pointing to the Heavens | Wat Arun | Bangkok

Wat Arun (Thai: วัดอรุณ, Temple of the Dawn) is a Buddhist temple (wat) in the Bangkok Yai district of Bangkok, Thailand, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The full name of the temple is Wat Arunratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan (วัดอรุณราชวรารามราชวรมหาวิหาร).

The outstanding feature of Wat Arun is its central prang (Khmer-style tower). It may be named "Temple of the Dawn" because the first light of morning reflects off the surface of the temple with a pearly iridescence. Steep steps lead to the two terraces. The height is reported by different sources as between 66,80 m and 86 m. The corners are surrounded by 4 smaller satellite prangs. The prangs are decorated by seashells and bits of porcelain which had previously been used as ballast by boats coming to Bangkok from China.

I suggest to click on the image to view it in larger size in the lightbox.
