Aharen Beach, Tokashiki Island, Okinawa, Japan
Tokashiki Island belongs to the Kerama Island group which are known for some of the world's clearest waters with 50-60m visibility. Those islands are also known as one of the world's best diving destinations, having a number of coral species and marine lives as large as those in the Great Barrier Reef. Over 400 types of corals, 5 types of sea turtles, manta rays, whale sharks and all kinds of tropical fish species all live around Okinawa.

I had the honor of visiting this island in 1968. My husband and I were both medical officers. We were stationed with the Air Force on Naha and we provided medical care to this island. I have never seen a more beautiful place. My husband has passed away but my grandson can't wait to visit. We took a Navy PT boat to the island , very small dock and slept on the tables at the school house. The generator was shut down at 9PM and we slept. the mornings were spent in clinics and the afternoons at the beach. Wonderful people. Water was crystal clear. We will go back next year.
