directly over the risingly popular gay bar

Exactly. 51st street between 8th and 9th
avenue. I used to live across the street. The
last time I was there, the neon lights seemed
to be burned out. There are some very cool
but small social places along the block. Just
as interesting is some of the text above the
doorways along the block.

FYI, that neon sign has been on W. 51st
Street for many, many years, long preceding
any bars on the block, although it was taken
down temporarily (for a year or two) to be
refurbished.
