The Lotus Temple in (New) Delhi![]() The Temple features on most daily itineraries for (New) Delhi. I expected the 'temple' to belong to the Hindu faith, but it is in fact a 'Bahai House of Worship'. It's a very surrealistic scene as you arrive at the Temple. A constantly moving human chain moves, as through a sausage machine, into and out of the temple (virtually all are tourists). It felt like a scene that would have fitted right into the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Visitors from all faiths are invited to spend time in meditation or prayer inside the temple, but it does ask for a kind of 'new age' orientation to faith, which I don't have. The architecture is quite something and I'd say a visit is worthwhile. CommentsWould you like to comment?Sign up for a free account, or sign in (if you're already a member). |

Thanks for sharing your photos of the Baha'i House of Worship. Sounds like you learned a little about Bahá'u'lláh and the Baha'i Faith. Because the Baha'i Faith considers all religions (including itself) to be part of "one common faith" they don't ask for any change in your orientation, though you may feel a need for one to participate. The attitude is sort of like the way Judaism is looked at in the Gospels. Abraham and Moses are accepted at face value.
I can't imagine actually stopping to pray while all the tourists are streaming through. I hope when I visit I'll be able to arrive at for a devotional program instead of regular tourist hours.
