Get your gulls in a row

    Newer Older

I was surprised these gulls stayed as long as they did. I had the GF1 and 20mm lens so I was really close to them at this point. The 20mm is a far stretch from a 'birder' lens ;)

The late-day sun yesterday was great and the temps fairly mild. I decided to run out with the GF1 (an increasingly more common occurrence lately) and hit the Manasquan Inlet.

A quick note about the GF1. The meter tends to blow highlights in high contrast scenes rather than battle with shadow noise. With Lightroom 3 and the many other noise suppression options available today I find this the opposite of what I want from my meter. Coupled with the lower dynamic range of the GF1 this can lead to blown highlights; be mindful of this and you will be ok. The shot above is about as far as I'm willing to go with blown highlights from this cam, but thankfully it's not too bad.

I don't believe these are real. I think you bought a stuffed seagull and photoshopped in the other five hundred or so. Confess.
