I'm not at all happy with the splotchy coverage.

Yeah. It's amazing how lumpy it is. Kind of disgusting.

I can't figure out what a better way to do this would have been. Laying down a solid ground of orange first might have helped--then at least that color would have been smooth, and I don't think it would have harmed the brown much. But how to avoid the gaps around the birds and dots? You just can't tell how many coats you've laid on in a given spot until it's fired.
