According to the Puranas, Shakti (Karpagambal) worshipped Shiva (Kapaleeswarar) in the form of a peacock, which is why the vernacular name Mylai (Mayilāi) was given to the area that developed around the temple - mayil is Tamil for "peacock".

Frozen Kunming Lake and a watch tower on the horizon.

At the Summer Palace (Yiheyuan - Garden of Nurtured Harmony) that has a history going back 800 years. It was greatly embellished during the Qing dynasty by Emperor QianLong, it was ransacked by the Western powers in 1860 and then Empress Cixi rebuilt it in 1900.

It is the largest royal garden covering 294 hectares and is located only 15km from Beijing. It is one of the main tourist attractions of the area. (Source: sacu)

The Summer Palace is mainly dominated by Longevity Hill (60 meters high) and the Kunming Lake. It covers an expanse of 2.9 square kilometers, three quarters of which is water.
