The tallest man-made structure in the world - at least it was until 1930, losing the title it held for 41 years.
Originally destined to be dismantled 20 years after its construction, in 1909, it proved too valuable for communication purposes and was allowed to remain standing and in the opening weeks of the First World War the powerful radio transmitters using the tower were used to jam German communications, seriously hindering their advance on Paris and contributing to the Allied victory at the First Battle of the Marne.
All that aside, my young family were totally enchanted, and on this particular evening the setting sun illuminated the tower and the city behind, I couldn't resist grabbing the wife's camera.
