I think they have ripped off your house at aoyama book center recently, still, it's entertaining.

Just great. What part of town are you in, may I ask? And how much did this renovation cost (also, if I may ask)? I'd love to do something similar. I always see people abandon the older buildings in Japan, like buildings were 使い捨て or something, when really they just need to be updated.

My father-in-law has a beautiful 30-year-old house out in rural Japan, and it just pains me to know that, since neither we nor my sister-in-law are too keen to move there, it's just going to be torn down and replaced with a cardboard Daiwa House when he dies. Makes me sick!

Of course, this is a cultural/religious custom that most people don't think about... The imperial family went a long time before they solidified their control of the country because they moved palace every time someone in the family died. The idea of 汚れ is not kind to buildings, it seems...

I look at this and think cool! until i remember all of the quakes we have in Japan. I can personally attest to the danger sleeping on the floor/low to the floor/ surrounded by potential missiles. Not fun/potentially dangerous being woken up with a large hardback falling on your face.
