    Loyal North Lancashire Regiment

    Col O'Brien was born in 1862 and commisioned on 5 September 1888. He retired from the Army on 26 June 1907 but was recalled on the outbreak of war in August 1914.

    For the duration of the war, he served as Temporary Lieutenant Colonel, Garrison Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.

      There is a possible in the 1911 census - Thomas Henry O'Brien, aged 48, born Cork, Ireland, Major Retired Infantry, living at Newnham Croft, near Wallingford, Berkshire, with his wife - Elizabeth, aged 39, born London, children - Robert Alfred, aged 8, born London and Sheila Edith Pauline, aged 7, born Preston, Lancashire and three servants. He had been married for 11 years and had 3 children of whom 1 had died.
