Hey All,

I’m retiring the Immortal permanently. Yep, he’ll start collecting social security soon.

The magic of Flickr faded for me shortly after returning from my 2 year hiatus. With the end of my last relationship recently, it felt like the end of an era. So, I think it’s best to box up the Immortal, tie a bright ribbon around that box, and send him off to the archives of my life. I still love photography, still love writing, still love the friends I’ve made here, and still plan on organizing a shoot here and there with a few of you, but Flickr is over for me. I’m moving on to greener pastures. For now, I’ll leave my photos up, but I don’t know for how long. So, if you want to copy any words or pictures for your own personal use, you have my permission to start grabbing shit.

I invited Russ, a.k.a. karmagroovy, out to Dry Creek Falls, Sweeney Falls, and most importantly, Solstice (the best restaurant in the Gorge, hands down) yesterday. Russ is a great sport, as you can see in the photo below in the comments section. The sign is a little hard to read, but it says: "I have bad karma today. I feel it closing in on me. Help!"

Russ kept the local flickr meetups alive and thriving for about 5 years before passing the torch. He's enthusiastic, fun, interesting, and a great photographer. I like remembering topics of conversation when shooting with people. On this occasion, we talked about photography, food, peppered pig's rectum, how you know you've found someone special when you can comfortably survive a long road trip with them, and much more. Strangely, I think this was only the third time I've shot with Russ since I began attending the meetups back in 2006. Special thanks to Russ' wife Patty for providing us with fabulous baked goods for our journey! Yummy!

The main idea behind this image was: What would you get if you combined a modern day Don Draper with the old "Blown Away Guy" Maxell commercial? It's a little old, a little new, and a whole lot of fun!

About 3 months ago, I received news that one of my photos had been accepted into the Portland Japanese Garden 2013 calendar. I'd been trying to get into the calendar for a few years, and as luck would have it, not only did I get in the calendar this time, but I also scored the cover, AND it's the Garden's 50th anniversary calendar! Rarely do things line up this perfectly, but I'm sure glad they did. I'm very proud of this achievement. I posted the original photo a long time ago here.
