Last Year's iPod Is This Year's Fireplace

Last Year's iPod Is This Year's Fireplace

Jenna and have dinner at Panera Bread every week, just before grocery shopping. I looked up from our booth and noticed two people seated across from the gas fireplace, staring at it intently. Then, I looked back down to my iPod. Somewhere in that moment, this idea popped into my head. Over the next few weeks, the details were filled in on my walks to and from work. It'd be fun to talk about the process of ideas more, but I'm short on time. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Oh, and special thanks goes out to Robert Kraft and PublicDomainPictures.net for use of the fireplace photo.

This is my Christmas interpretation of M.C. Escher's classic Hand with Reflecting Sphere. I saw an Escher exhibit at the Portland Art Museum a year or two ago and was blown away by his genius. If you ever have the chance to see an Escher exhibit, you simply must go. Amazing work.

Special thanks to Jenna for cloning out the reflection of my tripod in the ornament, among a couple other minor distractions.

Milk And Cookies Are For Amateurs

Milk And Cookies Are For Amateurs

There's a reason why I'm Santa's first stop every Christmas. It's not just because we're besties on Twitter. I've learned how to work the system. After decades of milk and cookies, Santa's taken a liking to chocolate gold coins. Just a heads up so that you too can be on Santa's priority list this year.

This photo is actually a parody of what Jenna does for a living, which is to photograph rare gold coins. I half-jokingly told her that she should take a picture of a chocolate gold coin and put it up on the company's website as a fun holiday photo for collectors. Since she probably wasn't going to do that, I decided to put the shot together myself. If you're curious about Jenna's coin photography, check out her work here.

Harry Potter and the Phantom Grey Pearl

Harry Potter and the Phantom Grey Pearl

The colour of my first car was Phantom Grey Pearl. It wasn't nearly as good as it sounds, but I always thought it would make for a great Harry Potter book title.

This was from my first visit to the Skylight Cave near Sisters, Oregon. I was a little more prepared on my second visit, but the first time was a lot of fun. I look forward to my next trip out there in 2012.
