Treating the Sideboard’s Hardware

Treating the Sideboard’s Hardware by IMA - Indianapolis Museum of Art.
Before treatment, the decorative hinges on the sideboard’s doors had been previously painted a muddy brown to match the doors. The original surface of the hinges suggested that these hinges were originally nickel colored. Consequently we decided to apply “German silver” leaf to the exterior parts of the hinges. This picture shows the hinges in their brown “original” state, and the silver leaf being applied.
