Knit A River |
"Knit A River" is a project
which we started in the summer of 2006
in conjunction with the charity
WaterAid. The idea was to create a
unique campaign tool which would create
a spectacle and raise awareness of
WaterAid and their work to promote the
need for clean, safe water and
sanitation for some of the world's
poorest people.
We asked knitters to send us 15cm x
15cm blue squares to form a 'knitition'
(knitted petition) and the result was
overwhelming Almost 100,000 knitted blue
squares have been received, from across
the world, and, when sewn together the
river is estimated to measure over 2000
ft long! We believe it's the largest
global knitting project ever created.
Our photos here include shots of
individual squares, and those from some
of the events where the river has been
used to engage puclic attention.
Congratulations and thanks to everyone
who contributed...and those who have
made it to any of the events. You can
still get involved with WaterAid -
