model hilldale cinema

A shot taken after "Capote" at the Hilldale Cinema in Madison. This place is going to be torn down soon, and another nice theater makes room for a multiplex. I quickly made a model to show around.

I was reading an article about photographers who use special tilt lenses to make miniaturesque shots of real settings. This picture has that sense about it. It doesn't appear to be a miniature, it feels like a real setting that has somehow been made to look miniature.

Disconcertingly beautiful shot.

@ grizzly: Thanks for another thoughtful and kind comment! If you want to try it yourself, here are some simply instructions for Photoshop. I did this real quickly when a friend asked me how to do it.

I agree with The_Grizzly, it's hard to explain why exactly I like this picture, there is a strong sense of non-miniature---a surreal kind of quality. I like the rich colors too.
