demonstration at lowe's HQ |
The Gulf Restoration Network (GRN) is
working to protect and restore
Louisiana's degraded coastal wetlands.
One of the threats to this vital
ecosystem is the destruction of cypress
forests, which provide valuable natural
storm and flood protection, important
habitat for wildlife, and water
filtration.
Unfortunately, these valuable trees are
being clear-cut solely to produce
cypress mulch, despite the fact that
sustainable alternatives exist.
Despite loudly touted environmental
policies, Lowe's, Home Depot, and
Wal-Mart continue to sell this
destructive product. It's time they
stopped.
Yesterday the GRN staged a
demonstration outside the Lowe's home
office near Charlotte, NC.
We were able to raise awareness of the
issue with hundreds of employees as they
drove home for the day using banners and
hand-outs.
This morning it was reported by NPR and
an article in Charlotte's main daily
newspaper is expected.
