The Golden Church

The Golden Church

I've been terribly busy lately, so I didn't have much time for photography and Flickr.

However, I do miss it here, so I just jumped in to say hi and looked in my archived to find this photo of the Gorny convent in Ein Karem, Jerusalem.

I chose this shot of two Meadow-saffrons to end my series of the trip from Jerusalem to the Halilim stream. It was a great day trip, full of nature and special in this season as in any other season. Will come back there at winter-spring for its awesome blooms and colors.
au revoir!

Tiny world

Tiny world

Walking near a fresh puddle, I noticed some strange purple spots floating in it.
As I approached, I saw that they are actually batches of purple little grains of... what is it?
So I took some pictures, downloaded to my computer and found out that the little purple grains were actually tiny larvae, guarded by their mother, the little Collembola (standing a bit right to the center).

By the way, the air bubbles are probably oxygen, generated by the photosynthetic bacteria living in this puddle.

Take a look at the second photo, of another batch of larvae, when a hungry black beetle (which is also very small) is feeding from them like a wolf in a pack of sheeps. The mother (upper section of the photo), in this case, has nothing else to do but to wait until the beetle is gone.

Thank you very much everybody for your kind comments, faves and interest!

ant-icipation

ant-icipation

One of my favorite flowers in the field, this beautiful, big flower emerges straight out of the ground after the first rain. The leaves follow after a short delay.
I'm always full of anticipation for them, they symbol the first "true" rain of the season and fill the ground with beautiful violet colors.
