Taken at Saint John Lateran Square in Rome on May 17, 2009 on the occasion of the "FESTA DEI POPOLI" a great festival of fraternity against every kind of racism.
The important event of the “FESTA DEI POPOLI” (People Festival), the
late spring appointment totally dedicated to the people of Migrants,
took place on May 17, 2009 from 9.00 to 20.00 in the prestigious
scenario of St. John Lateran Square. This Festival is one of the most
beautiful initiatives of the city of Rome and the Church that extend
together their arms to welcome the newcomers that live in harmony with
the city, with its own culture, their faith, with the result of their
work, contributing to the growth of the community and preparing a
decent future to their children. The event is mainly Catholic, so even
in the title is very alive the meaning of faith of the believers who
see the Church as a place always open and welcoming beyond all limits
and borders, bringing together all the Children missing. The title
chosen for the event this year is "We are all migrants".
The event took place throughout the day with a rich and articulated program. There were ethnic communities belonging to many parts of the world and different religions: Latin Americans, Russians, Ukrainians, Romanians, Nigerians, Egyptians, Filipinos, Chinese. Each bearer of his religion (Catholics, Copts, greek-Catholics), demonstrating that the sharing of life is also possible with and different ideas and faiths.
The first edition of the PEOPLE FESTIVAL entitled "Together
without Frontiers" dates back to May 3, 1992. Built for the
vitality of the charisma of the Fathers Scalabrinians of Rome, for 13
consecutive years it took place in the wide spaces of the Parish of
SS. Redeemer in Valmelaina, entrusted to the same congregation. The
various editions that followed had a constant growth of participants

The PEOPLE FESTIVAL aims to promote the understanding of different peoples, the only way to break down the wall of mistrust and to discover the richness that immigrants bring with them. An appointment also bound to highlight the responsibilities of the Christian community, of the operators of communications and of the social workers, so that they could see in the new immigration reality the changing world that strives to transform its own language, methods, strategies and the horizons of reference.
