Cairns Taipans v Gold Coast Blaze: Cheerleaders
THE Taipans have atoned for their early-season road loss to the Gold Coast, thrashing the Blaze 96-76 at the convention centre on Saturday night.
Eleven years to the day since the club recorded its first win – against the Sydney Kings – it marked the occasion with a third consecutive home win for the season.
Former Blaze guard Ayinde Ubaka finished with a team-high 19 points and six Taipans made double-figure contributions as the Snakes ran away with the game despite a fourth-quarter Blaze fightback.
Mark Worthington top scored with 21 for the Blaze while new import Ira Clark showed he would be a handful, with a few highlight reel contributions in his 16 points.
