Mission 24 : Nostalgia

and Happy Bokey Wednesday eve!

A stack of old 7 inch singles, the two in front are the first two records I bought when I was a wee lad.

Boomtown Rats, I don’t like Mondays (that one cost 99p and I remember going on my bike to buy it at the Music Box record shop in Ballymoney circa 1979)

and

Peter Gabriel, Games without frontiers (bought that in Dublin - I did not go to Dublin on my bike cos that was 130 miles)

Have you bought a USB enabled turntable yet? Turn all that vinyl scratchy goodness into digital copies.

i LOVED that song! my dad had a CB in our GMC jimmy. we had a house down in the outer banks, and the fisherman all used to talk to each other to say where the fish were biting in cape hatteras. good memories.

HA! Helen Reddy! God I loved that song. We had a "stereo" and the brand name was "Juliet." So naturally, my goofy cousins and I wrote numerous poems as if we were beatniks and they all involved "Juliet." My fave:

Juliet speaks!
~clap clap~
And the screwdriver masturbates.

Got into trouble for reciting that one at the dinner table.

I had that too. (I still do. Sadly it's on my iPod. Shhh! Don't tell Apple. I don't want them to come and repossess my stuff).

Sorry I said "masturbates" on your stream, dude. Normally I'm not that foul-mouthed.

@ Shannon and Kelly - Haha! My parents must hated Convoy since I played it over and over. I had eclectic taste, or lack thereof, when I was a kid, as I had these 2 45s shortly after Convoy.

I was in Ireland hanging with my homies in Tipp when the Boomtown Rats were number 1 with that song. It was on RTE Radio 2 every 5 minutes. There was also an advert they played all the time that went "Put a little money in the Irish Permanent; watch your savings grooooOOOOW".

Top tunes! Great days.

Very cool photo. I remember record shops where you could go into a booth and listen befor you buy. Great Rock&Roll bands from the past that worked hard to make it. And recording studios that had to be creative and have electronic skills to build and invent new equipment to get that new sound.
