The final major step in making the room "mine" was to remove G's receiver and replace it with mine. Mine is smaller anyhow.
People always give me a hard time for working in the dark, no matter where I am. I have a thing about too much light, it feels noisy to me and hence distracting. So, when I come in to work, if the sun is out, I leave all the lights off and just open the shades.

I am going to hell for all the procrastination I am engaging in while nominally trying to finish this talk. This is my desk/office.

I envy you that you are able to do your day-to-day work on a laptop. Typing on a laptop makes me crazy, so I work on the desktop. You know, my laptop is just for show ;-)

That lamp looks like typical fair for Ola's house. The rest of the decor in the place is just as nice.

Jessamyn-> you need to add some notes to this photo describing what things are!

I'm pretty sure Ola made the lamp or her late husband did. There is some knockout stained glass in the house here. Picture now annotated.

"Australia postcard, sent from CHINA."

This is the kind of phrase I find so evocative I can barely stand it. Nice.

I'd like to see this in the daylight, too--mostly of the interesting details are just black boxes with notes, for me.

I, too, covet the lamp.

Jessamyn, I like keeping the whole house dark and cool -- like my mother did, it occurs to me, when I was a kid. When I'm working at home alone, I turn off pretty much every light in the house except the desk lamp.
