Sacred and profane

Sacred and profane

A was about to take a picture of the Basilica de San Vicente when a saw a black Porsche supercar approaching - I decided to wait a few more secondo to let the car pass, but thought a moment later that it would have made it for a nice contrast with the church - and so here it is.

The church is one of the UNESCO World heritage monuments of Avila, along with the other few extra-moenia churches and the defensive walls that surround entirely the small Spanish city.

HDR from a single raw file, and thank you lucky Porsche owner for your oh-so-fucking-clean-car that reflects everything so well :)

New rich, old poor

New rich, old poor

The popular neighborhood of Chamartin, in northern Madrid, is the foreground and background for the new CTBA (Cuatro Torres Business Area), a cluster of four skyscrapers designed by some of the most renowed architects around: Cesar Pelli, Sir Norman Foster and Pei Cobb Freed and Partners.

The sky in Madrid is always dramatic - either when of a incredible deep blue or when dotted with clouds - a must see among the other remarkable attractions of a beautiful city.

The shot was taken from the stair leading to the main hall of Chamartin station, too bad I shot 4:3 and had to cut to 16:9 later, loosing some interesting "bad-neighborhood" details in the very foregrounds, that would have made the contrast even harsher.

Strong HDR and post-production treatment.

Chiesette e montagne

Chiesette e montagne

A small chapel ontop a hilly peak on the Italian Alps, just a few kilometers away from Aprica - a well know sky-resort in the Lombardy Alps. This picture was taken on the 1st of November 2011 - and the weather was still incredibly warm - the winter arriver very late this year.

All the stereotypes of the Alpine landscape are in this picture, that's why I liked the composition so much. I'm still suspecting that everything was set up just to tease the visitor.

San Vitale - Ravenna

San Vitale - Ravenna

This amazing piece of art and architecture is a must see - not only in Ravenna, but in Italy as well.

The early Christian and Byzantine design and decorations, inside as well as outside, are breathtaking and incredible.

In the picture you can see the presbitery's mosaics, but seeing them live is a completely different affair, and I *strongly* recommend a visit to the city to discover all the other early Christian/Byzantine monuments - hard to find such a concentration of this peculiar style anywhere else. All of them, due to their uniqueness, they have been declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the world.

HDR from a single raw file.

Thames and the City

Thames and the City

Long exposure of the Thames and its boats overlooking the City area, with the Gherkin and the Tower 42 popping out along with some cranes. I could spend a whole night there - if my tripos is with me :)

HDR from four different exposures
