sure cropping the photo might look better visually, but any skateboarder is going to ask where he's coming from and/or landing. reference is one of the most important elements of a good skateboarding photo, otherwise it will just look like something off a fucking mountain dew can.

Your points about skateboarding photos are interesting; isn't it funny how we all bring our own preconceptions to things and - despite the fact that we all know that we do that - we do it anyway, over and over?

I never considered why a skateboarder would need to see more of the image.

Anyway, that being said, I still prefer the third version of this photo that I posted: flickr.com/photos/57349602@N00/252360825/

The original is a great shot, but I feel like the final edit brings the boarder himself into focus and, by slicing off the top of the circle, ends the conflict that that shape has with the square borders of the image.

Anyway, it's a really cool photo. Thanks for sharing it - I hope you don't mind my edits. (If you do, say so, and I will take them down.)
