Ganvie from the air

Pens for fishing and fish farming
Ganvie from the air by Hugo!.
The city of Ganvie is built on stilts in lake Nokoue, also known as the "Venice of Africa" (clever beninese marketing ploy :) it's one of the main touristic attractions in the south of Benin.

Home to about 20.000 people, it was originally built buy the Tofinu people to escape slave raids from neighbouring kingdoms. Today the people still mainly live from fishing and occasionally tourism.

If it wasn't for your description I'd have thought this was a flood photo. Very interesting. I'm suprised how few boats there are around the channels.
