Esplanade des Invalides: a new anti-CPE demonstration today turned even more violent than Saturday. A couple of photographers have been beaten up by provovateurs, a few cameras stolen, and large riots erupted in different places of this huge esplanade. At least 3 cars have been burnt as well as part of a building.
Here, the firemen are trying to flip one of the cars in order to get access to the reservoir and extinguish the fire.

Well, hugo I guess that's where the telephoto comes in handy lol I don't think I would have brought my D200 to this type of event. You're courageous (or inconscient lol)!
Anyway, only the end result counts! very good job!
By the way, I hope that your images won't reinforce the fact that some foreigners think that France is burning (well some american medias thought the civil unrest was like an intifada), when us frenchies know it doesn't. Anyway, violence is still too prominent in France, let's hope it gets better in the next few years.

Wow! I can't belive what's going on... I got caught in it today at Place d'Italie, it was much calmer than this.

A great shot (and series) - really captures the energy and drama of the moment. Another example of some of the truly excellent photojournalism that appears on Flickr. Thanks!

Thx everybody ! And please notice that these are NOT representative of the protesters nor the protest: these are provocateurs infiltrating the demonstrations with only 3 objectives: fight the police, break whatever they can, and to a lesser extent, steal properties. These guys have absolutely nothing to do with the students and their revendications.

A join the corus of admirers and I totaly agree with your point that most of these are created by outsiders. The ones we call "professional protesters" who travel the world, synchronized or not, simply to create havoc. We've seen them in Montreal and Quebec city too.
Excellent reportage Hughes, vraiment fascinant.
