Three veterans sheltering from the rain, Arromanches, Normandy, D-day commemorations 2009

Dick on the left was wounded FOUR times during the war. Once when his unit was overrun in North Africa he was shot twice in the back. He woke up days later in hospital and was told that his whole unit was dead and that the only reason he lived was that a retreating Maori soldier picked him up and carried him to safety. Dick never met the man who saved his life and doesn't even know his name or if he survived the war.
