I am a former resident (1963 - 1995) resident of Rogers Park. I lived in the neighborhood back when it was actually inhabited by something other than crack addicts. I was finally driven out by the crime, the filth and the lack retail services. Another former resident turned me on to this hillarious blog. I see a few posts that detail exactly why anyone who was able to flee Rogers Park has done so, surrendering what was once a great neighborhood the gang bangers and those whose only other housing option is a cardboard box. I also see lots of posts claiming that Rogers Park is being taken over by "yuppie scum". Have you paranoid crack heads been reading this blog? Rogers Park is the worst slum in Chicago. No one wants to live there! Regular, working class people (like me) have fled in fear for our lives and will not set foot in our former neighborhood. So don't worry. No Yuppie is going to come and drive you out of your unheated, broken window little hovels nor are they about to drive those slum exploiter merchants (otherwise known as "diverse locally owned businesses") from that hellhole. Rogers Park is for people whose only other housing option is lower Wacker Drive. I am glad to see that there is one person left in Rogers Park who realizes what a sewer it is. I am glad I got out when I did.

No yuppie's coming to Rogers Park? I take it that you have not been there in a while. Buildings are going condo all over the place! North of Howard has seen a conversion BOOM in the last 5 years. Single family homes have been popular too. There was one home on Lunt, between Clark and Ridge, that listed for $899,000 within the last year. Rogers Park a slum. No way.

Am I to take it that there's no other option, either "crack scum" or "yuppie scum"? Rogers Park happens to be the most racially (and probably socioeconomically) diverse area of the city. Just look at the last census map. In theory, it should be an ideal place to live, if there were greater community investment, including human resources and taxes, to ends which benefit all.

I was trying to figure out how to insert polls and original comments on this site. I admit I am not all that astute when in comes to blogs, as I plod along via the trial and error mode (mostly the latter). Any help in this would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you.

The problem with Rogers Park is Alderman Moore. His has lined his pockets with the under-the-table campaign contributions of the slumlords in the community. Those crack heads and dealer also make their little contribution to Mr. Moore's cause by casting votes for him so that the police look the other way.

Merchants and small business owners of Rogers Park beware. If you are not in his pocket, you're not in business. With Moore, Rogers Park is guaranteed to get LESS each time you place him back in that position. Wake up people of Rogers Park and realize that it is time for a definite change. Just cause Joe's white, doesn't make him right!

The committee for honest government
FBI arrests N.J. public officials 9/6/2007
Mayor, lawmakers, others accused of taking bribes to influence contracts
Calif. charter school leader indicted 9/5/2007
Prosecutors say he, city councilman siphoned millions in public school funds
I guess being a public official – politician is a license to abuse the public confidence and take bribes and kickbacks. I think any public official who abuses his power and takes bribes, kickbacks and influence should get the full punishment the law can give and in an expedited manner.
It is time public officials should abide by the law do their job honestly and build the public trust and confidence.
Public officials should know that public office is not for sale under no circumstances.
Honest government is a must

Throughout our history, the American people have demanded that their government reflect our nation’s highest ideals of openness and honesty, transparency and integrity and -- above all else -- a clear commitment to protecting the interest of the American people, not powerful special interests.

When the excesses of a corrupt establishment have gone too far, the American people have risen up and reformed the political process to correct our course -- because ultimately it is the people who must lead.

Today, to achieve and maintain power, the leaders of our country have built a system where money not only buys influence, but the right to govern. Special interests and their lobbyists not only buy access, they buy results -- on any issue, no matter the public interest. This culture of corruption prevails through all levels of government.

Our leaders have made the terms of the deal very clear. Those who make an investment in keeping dishonest leaders in power will see a huge return on their investment in the form of corporate welfare, no-bid contracts and favorable regulation -- at the expense of the public interest.

This corrupt cycle must be broken. When our elected officials bend government to serve their own interests or those of their friends, our democracy is at risk.

Today we should be unveiling an ethics reforms package that will clean up our government so the American people can have the honest leadership they deserve, and so our government can get back to the work of the people for the people.

Honest leadership is not a partisan goal -- it is the key to a stronger Union. It is time to put progress ahead of politics. Together, we can change our government and rebuild trust with the American people. We call on all American’s to join the efforts in restoring honest leadership to all levels of government. The American people deserve nothing less.

The committee for honest government.
How come the City of Chicago is allowing an Energy company in Skokie, Illinois to collect City of Chicago taxes on natural gas for over 15 years without paying any of it to the city or refunding it to the customers. Maybe someone has clout - a former Federal judge was part owner in that company. The company is also being represented by the law firm of Greenberg Traurig of which Jack Abramoff was a partner who went to jail, the firm also admitted to criminal charges and kickbacks and paid millions in damages.
