venice backyard
I had the fortune of visiting Venice again last weekend. At this time of year the city is not so overcrowded as in summer. It allows for more peace and quietness; to get closer to and to explore the pittoresque surroundings.
The churches and islands are fabulous but it is also very rewarding to walk the backyards and witness the rare beauty of these old buildings (even though most would be in need for some serious renovation by today's standards).
I have picked this capture primarily because I like light and the colors. Comments without graphics are very much appreciated. Thank you!
There is a painting from another artist inspired from this photograph available here.

Love how the light 'flows' between these old walls helping to enhance the sense of depth. Beautiful capture my friend!

A unique photograph, my friend.
It has a painterly composition and I love how the light pervades throughout...having the strongest light in the background is a fantastic element.
I am sure it makes for a nice-looking print.
Thank you for stopping by my stream today :-)
Have a wonderful weekend, senior Hogne.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Much appreciated!
Funny how the Norwegians want to go canoeing. I actually asked myself while being there if at all it would be permitted to enter Venice (and the canals) by own boats?

The soft and dispersed backlight works perfectly here. Nice colours and composition.
...and Yes - I had a great time skiing in the Austrian Alps - perfect weather and snow conditions - these mountains are simply beautiful.

This is such a beautiful view into the small streets of Venice. The jade channel of water contrasts with the warm reds, orange and browns, which are also reflected in it, leading my eye forward, also drawn by the source of the light. The exposure is perfect, with rich color and texture revealed in both shadow and lit areas. Wonderful, Hogne. Thank you also for your visit, and advice on the banding issue...much appreciated :~) Hills

This really makes me want to go there to see this myself. Nice exposure time for the water texture in addition to the light.

You've captured exquisitely the radiant, reflective color-washed walls of Venice. The splash of red makes it sing. The lighting and compo contribute to making it ... well, Operatic!

Such a melancholic city and your image really captures that feeling for me with its soft light and muted colours, while at the same time not dwelling in sorrow as the light is softly uplifting. Lovely photo.

Wonderful...I like this because the colors are strong, but they're muted, calmer, more nuanced than the bright flashiness of most Venice shots. This feels so much more real. Lovely shot...
