revelation of the dolomites

Sasso Lungo / Langkofel (3181 m) seen from Campitello di Fassa. It was on my way back from a short visit in Venice that I decided to take a detour through the Dolomites which I have never visited before.
I did not regret the two hours extra travel time passing the Rosengarten group, through the Fassa valley and back over the Sella pass. I knew about the beauty of the Dolomites but I was totally amazed driving through the region. A revelation! I will certainly go back with more time to spend.
I have chosen BW with for this shot mainly because I think it is a very good format for mountain peaks and grand landscapes. For me this shot embodies the beauty of the Dolomites in a classic alpine composition with the forest foreground and the peaks against the evening sky.

beautiful atmosphere and love the serenity.
those traces of clouds gives a great soft contrast to the mountains with the trees framing all of this.
Your fantastic black and white picture is my winner!

PS!

Flott sorthvitt arbeid! Passet særs godt her. Nesten Ansel Adams!

It may be a classic alpine composition, but the light on the peaks and that stunning sky more than make up for any perceived lack of originality, indeed it may have detracted from the scene if you'd done something more creative.

Veldig malerisk, tross s/h konvertering (ser det like flott ut i farge?).

It reminds me of the few Ansel Adams photos that I have been fortunate enough to view. When you have that sort of comparison then I think you can be very pleased indeed.

I agree, there is something completely Ansel-Adams-esque about this. Yet it reads your fingerprints all over it. The dynamic range still naturally high, probably excellent use of IR filtering as the sky is dark, wispy clouds, in brief, a true modern classic.
