Rhone gletscher

Rhone gletscher by h_saarikoski.
Rhone glacier in the evening. The white plastic looking thing down in the middle is a plastic sheet used to slow down melting of the glacial ice. It is protecting here an ice cave which has been dug into the glacier for turists. Since the end of 1800's melting of ice has reduced the length of the glacier by over a kilometer due to the climate change. The terminal tongue is now at 2300 m of altitude compared to 1750 m in 1870's. Technical note: stitched from three exposures taken with Hasselblad SWC wideangle camera.
