Don't Wanna Be On Top of Your List by Hryck.

Don't Wanna Be On Top of Your List

When I was in Russia, I was pretty separated from American culture. None of the volunteers had cable, few had more than a working channel. I had the internet, but that was only when the phone lines weren't cut and sold for scrap. As a result, the only contact I had with what was going on in America were the complimentary issues of Newsweek that the Peace Corps supplied us with, and what my Russian friends told me was popular. This last part wasn't especially reliable, since many were convinced that Americans dance on their tables whenever Elvis comes on the radio.

"What do we do with our food?" I'd always ask. They'd look at me like it was some kind of a trick question.

To this day, there's a two year gap my knowledge of movies and music. Some of it bled over to Russia radio, but this was unreliable. According to my Russian friends, German rave maestros, Scooter, were taking America by storm, Onyx was the biggest hip hop act of all time, and Mambo #5 wasn't a punchline.

Still can't believe America bought into Mambo #5.

Massive Attack was huge over there. If they would've played Vladivostok, every man, woman, and child would've bought tickets. People asked me if I knew Tricky personally, and what he was really like? Was Michael Jackson was jealous of Daddy G, or if he was willing to learn from him.

Yeah. That happened.

Kind of an interesting choice by Hryck.

Kind of an interesting choice

The guy that wrote this wrote it on the ground under the bus way. He (and I have no good reason for making the writer a "he") is scared for the safety of his sister. She's dating a violent guy, and he's scared for her. He's scared that she'll meet her end at his fists. He's scared each time he sees his sister will be the last time. He wrote this letter to her explaining his fears, and that she will see the light of day and leave this terrible man, this man who might love her to death.

I'd love to know why he chose to write this on the ground under the bus way.

Living in America by Hryck.

Living in America

A friend thought for a long time that this was the national anthem.

I can't make fun of him. A big part of me wonders why it isn't.
