José Campeche (1751-1809), was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Campeche is the first known Puerto Rican artist and considered by many as one of the best rococo artists in the Americas.

This erie portrait immediately struck me as unlike anything else in that whole period of Puerto Rican art.
