Squirrel cuckoo

El Tuito is about 45 km south of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Jalisco. The small town is several hundred years old and the area is reputed to be one of few with wild macaw populations.

I did not see macaws, but I was close to el Tuito and watching a group of grooved billed anis - commonly seen members of the cuckoo family - when this more furtive member of the cuckoo family caught my eye. It was a dull afternoon and I was lucky I had the flash mounted "just in case".
