Main Hall, Hellingly Asylum

Main Hall, Hellingly Asylum by howzey.
The decaying Victorian splendour of the Main Hall / Theatre at Hellingly Asylum, Sussex

Designed by George Thomas Hine and built in 1903, it closed it's doors in 1994.

It's an amazing place, spent about 5 hours in there with still loads to explore. Need to go back with a tripod for some long exposures.

This image looked like an eye to me in the thumbnail,
the tiny window in the upper left like a light catch of an eye.
I googled this asylum, I found a lot of hits, yours here was one of them... I wonder why the place was closed, not used for another purpose.. this is very compelling, & intriguing to me the way of it all..

It must have been a very beautiful place. You've caught that atmosphere of gentle decline really well. Considering it's past use, I don't feel it has the same sad, abandoned feel as the shore buildings at Newhaven port.
