We didn't add it- it's kind of original. We're renters and this came with the apartment. Our neighbor's house is almost exactly the same, but she's unearthed the original bead board wood wainscoting. I actually really like how ours looks as is...although it is a bit grubby. Our landlord has owned/lived here for 59 years.
