Three Sisters (Blue Mountains, Australia)

Three Sisters (Blue Mountains, Australia) by Patrick Houlihan.
The name, "Three Sisters," comes from an Aboriginal legend. In the story, a witch-doctor turns his three daughters into stone to save them from a mythical monster.

The area was once a seabed that rose over a long period and subsequently eroded, leaving tall formations.

This photo illustrates the haze from which the Blue Mountains take their name. The haze is caused by the evaporation of oil from eucalyptus trees.

I love the eucalyptus story - great for tourists with colds.

Patrick,

How did you get high enough to get this shot! (And I'm not talking about Paddy's Irish Whiskey!)

Thanks for your comment on my GREAT CITIES SET photo! / Joe R

Nice view and an interesting story.

And yes, where did you shoot it from? Another mountain?

Thanks for the kind comments.

Joe and Pandiyan ~ This was taken from the top of a mountain. Access to that spot is actually quite easy. (And Joe, it was too early in the morning to get high any other way. Even for another Irish-American.)

Great shot!
The pinnacles look like they're a bit crumbly - lots of freshly exposed patches. Have they been traversed at all by anyone that's lived to tell the tale?

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Tyrrell Today, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

We think this is a great contemporary comparison for our historic image of The Three Sisters, Katoomba, Blue Mountains, NSW.
