Image Description Two pages from an 1882 Indiana gazetteer advertising Butler University, which was located in Irvington, Indiana at that time. The following information is taken directly from the advertisement.

"Butler University is now the best endowed school in the west."

The Medical College was formed "...by the union of the Indiana Medical College and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Indiana."

Listed officers of the board for Butler University are: President, B. M. Blount; Secretary, Ovid Wallace; Treasurer, John M. Judah. Faculty of the Department of Literature, Science and the Arts include: Harvey W. Everest (President); Allen R. Benton; Wm. M. Thrasher; Catharine Merrill; Scot Butler; Oliver P. Hay; Hugh C. Garvin; Demarchus C. Brown; and Virginia K. Allan.

Officers of the Medical College include: Dean, Theophilus Parvin; Treasurer, Isaac C. Walker; Secretary, Henry Jameson. Faculty include: Graham N. Fitch; Theophilus Parvin; John A. Comingor; R. N.
