What I'm wearing to see the torch today

What I'm wearing to see the torch today by Mat Honan.
Please note:
I am not really wearing this shirt today. I am not a pro-China demonstrator.

Really? You support China's invasion and occupation of Tibet? Some of us in the American left (socialists, et al) may support China in order to oppose unchecked US imperialism or as an example of an alternative to capitalism (though China's version of socialism is far from what any of would consider egalitarian at this point -- its elite benefits from participation in the global economy as much as the US elite does). But don't we have to separate that from its tyrannical political and economic elite? Don't we have to be critical of what deserves to be critical of? I think we should be. So then the question is: how to oppose China's occupation of Tibet and its treatment of its own people while opposing US imperialism? I want an independent, egalitarian, socialist China that treats its people and its neighbors with respect. Until then, I will oppose the Chinese government. And I will always stand against the Chinese government and Chinese elites invading, occupying, and exploiting Tibet. Free Tibet! China out of Tibet! NOW!

powertools: I believe the phrase here is 'visual sarcasm'. Note the 'freetibet' tag.

Oh. OK. Sorry if I missed the irony or sarcasm. :-)
My bad for taking it seriously.
I assumed Mat Honan was a socialist trying to undermine Tibet's big day in San Francisco and I didn't want to see it go unchallenged.

Blockading China's Olympic torch route with this shirt on would be excellent.

I just learned this: "The torch relay got its start during the so-called Fascist Olympics held in 1936 Berlin, when the Nazis seized upon the idea as a way to associate the Third Reich with ancient Greece." The Olympics, and the torch run in particular, has always been political, it seems.

Finally, zombiebite, for me, it's: will WE ever win? And who has to lose for us to "win?"

Hope to see you all on the streets today...

I am in favour of a free Tibet but I just wonder whereas the Tibetan people are the only world's people that are submited and I believe that friends of my enemy are my enemies; therefore if one knows who are the friends of any dictatorship one shall know who are my enemies and then it might happen that there are many.
