With their instructor looking on (and taking notes on her clipboard!) students at the Barista Association of Korea (BAOK, 한국바리스타협회) learn to make the perfect caffe latte.

BAOK provide certification for aspiring baristas and even hold a Korean Barista Championship. No word on whether or not they also train students on the dreaded "sweet potato lattes" which are seen in some Korean coffee shops...

Hopes, wishes and dreams written on notes in a subway station in Seoul. The author of the green note is hoping for an exemption from Korea's compulsory military service - or a rapid discharge.

사과나무 - the apple tree

This is one of several places I miss in Seoul. It's tucked down an alley, just a minute or two from the heart of Insadong - a busy, touristy area in the centre of the city. A nice place to escape to for a quiet beer with friends. In warm weather, you can sit around in the courtyard and enjoy the sunshine. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed, the owner is laid-back and friendly and food from the hand-drawn menus is pretty good.

But my recommendation is a pitcher of the Red Rock, and some good company.
