As the cathedral was nearing completion they held a competition for people to come up with a unique idea for a gargoyle. Some kid came up with this idea and won.

I went back to the cathedral today and took another shot of Darth with a higher quality lens. He's much more sharp...I'm going to add a close up view as well since he appears to be so popular.
