Google Reader Theme in Safari

Google Reader Theme in Safari by Jon Hicks.
OK, I think this is almost there. All the wierdness I was seeing in the sidebar seems to be have been solved. Anyone fancy testing it?

Update: 'Home' is now fixed

Most importantly, this solves a bug that I was seeing in webkit browsers with the default css. When scrolling, some sidebar elements would annoyingly bounce up and down. Not any more!

Somehow my Google Reader "Home" doesn't look very nice. It's completely blue and the content isn't readable at all...

@ Superdeluxe, sorry I mentioned that in a previous post. I just assume everyone reads them all! ;o)

Yes, Home is rubbish at the moment, but will be fixed soon. Its hard to motivate myself do it though, as I never use the 'Home' bit!

I can't get it to work with Safari + SafariStand. The main problem is I can't see the css on the list of styles to apply. I placed the css in both ~/Library/Safari/Stand/UserStyleSheets/ and /Library/Safari/Stand/UserStyleSheets/ (my user library and the system library directories). Restarted Safari many times too and emptied the caché.
Thank you.

Hmm, thats odd. For a start, you shouldn't need 2 UserStyleSheet folders, surely?

The greader.css file isn't in a subfolder by any chance?
Posted 27 months ago. ( permalink )

vidarara [deleted] says:

Yep. I placed it on my home "Library" directory first, and then I thought you were refering to place it to /Library (not ~/Library). Anyway, I placed the css in both directories, just for ensure it works.
The greader file is on this directory ~/Library/Safari/Stand/UserStyleSheets/ (and in /Library/Safari/Stand/UserStyleSheets/ too.)
:/

Anyway, I can't see the css in the SafariStand list. It's clearly a SafariStand issue.
Thanks.

It was all my fault. I had to add a rule and from that rule, select the css (which was the css I put on ~/Library/Safari/Stand/UserStyleSheets/).
Thanks. It looks great on Safari. (and forget all I wrote up here.).

First thanks for the gReader skin. Works great in the latest FF, except in list view the title positioning is weird, causing it to look as though it is overwriting itself with a shadow. Love the drawer effect for account info panel. Thanks.

Nice stuff Jon, I was just wondering about one thing on the "Home" Page the bg color is blue(#1d5eba) is it supposed to be that way..erm here's what I've changed that it goes back to normal:
before:

#chrome {
background: #1d5eba (url here goes that img...

after:
#chrome {
background: #FFFFFF (url here goes that img...

P.S. I'm using the greader.css for Firefox + Camino

No its not meant to be that way. If you re-download, I've updated it to include the Home Page fix (which is different to yours)

Jon, your update fixed the Home issue and list view per category now displays fine. List view per feed still shows the Grindstead issue. Did I mention you have now made it almost enjoyable to use FF on a Mac?
Thanx

OK, the "Grinstead Issue" should now be solved! Please re-download and update.

The download now documents what changes/fixes there are, and what's left to do (as much for me).

I can't get it to work in Safari (works fine in FF).

I placed the css file in the ~Library/Safari/Stand/UserStyleSheets folder & in SafariStand settings I can select the css file. Here's a pic of my SafariStand settings if it helps

Still can't get it to work on my PowerMac (after clearing the cache, restarting Safari etc.) but I'll carry on twiddling & will hopefully get it up & running there also :)

Nice work!

Just one complain :) for the keyboard addicts:

If you use the keyboard to navigate the feed list (shift-j, shift-k), there is no indication of what feed you are selecting.

to get the keyboard cursor back, edit the code for this style.

#sub-tree li a.cursor {
-moz-border-radius: 0px !important;
background: #c3d9ff !important;
}

that's my edit. the background used to be "transparent"

Site shoud be up now - it was actually a fault in the apache rules, rather than the server being down, although its apparently being hammered at over 6mb per second, which is a lot when you're not on a dedicated server!
